Children and adolescents are increasingly suffering from type 2 diabetes, also called diabetes mellitus. This disease used to be known as adult diabetes.
The causes of the spread of the disease among young people are too much sugar and too little exercise. Diabetes 2 is genetically predisposed, but obesity and lack of exercise promote the onset of the disease.
Diabetes 2 has dangerous effects. Without treatment, it destroys the blood vessels, the risk of suffering a heart attack increases massively - as does the risk of stroke. Nerve disorders and blindness can also occur.
The hormone insulin transports the sugar from the blood into the cells. In Diabetes 2, the cells hardly react to insulin and can therefore no longer process the sugar.
Adipose tissue releases the messenger substances that promote this insulin resistance, lack of exercise weakens the insulin uptake of the muscle cells.
Why in children?
People in Germany have never consumed so much sugar without doing so little physical work. Children sit more and more and eat more sugar: Internet and television, combined with chips, "energy drinks", cola and lots of chocolate, prepare for Diabetes 2.
A wholesome diet and lots of exercise are the best ways to prevent diabetes. For example, if you work sitting, you can ride a bike every day, swim once a week or jog. Maintaining a garden or doing shopping on foot brings balance.
Those who exercise a lot can also consume more energy. On the other hand, if you only sit at a desk, you should rely on low-calorie food: vegetable chips instead of Haribo, water or spritzers instead of cola.
Diabetes 2 shows up with constant urge to urinate, excessive thirst, irritation of vision, badly healing wounds and fungal infections.
Sick people can also heal themselves by reducing weight, changing their diet and exercising. (Dr. Utz Anhalt)
